July 9 2022 and off we head for Zakynthos. It was not an island I had heard of before. The only Greek island names that really reach Canada are those like Corfu and Santorini. We soon found out that Zakynthos should be among those names.
Zakynthos was a party place for big kids and little kids. There were lots of party boats that could be joined for day adventures and it looked like there was lots of drinking that occurred. The town also had little shops of little kids games and rides which made it great for India and Nina.
Luckily there was a marina that we backed onto the dock and tied up. This as always, was a great solution allowing us to walk off the back of INDININI and then it as only a short walk, or for the girls a scooter ride into the center of town.
From the mainland to an island, with no plan or communication, travellers connect again. We went out for dinner and while we were looking for a place to sit and eat, we ran into the family we met at Olympia. The girls were excited so we gathered together and went for dinner.
We saw the main sites of the town. We got a few more supplies from Lidl and after washing the boat and filling up with water, we set sail again and headed half way up the island to sulfer bay. It was only a couple hour sail, even into the wind with an easy anchorage, clear warm water and spot to go for a swim, have dinner and of course watch the Sound of Music.
Zakynthos is also where we had a crew change. The shengen time was up for Karin so this is where she departed on a ferry to Corfu and ultimately Albania. We said good by and waved as her ferry left the port. India and Nina were sad. We all had shared a fantastic time with Karin. She spent a lot of time with the children and taught them a lot over the months together.
It has been almost 4 months and Zakynthos is where Sarah came back from Hong Kong to be on INDININI.
